Convention Policies

Code of Conduct

Attendees must respect common sense rules for public behavior, personal interaction, common courtesy, and respect for private property. Harassing or offensive behavior will not be tolerated. Cape Events reserves the right to revoke, without refund, the membership and badge of any attendee not in compliance with this policy. Persons finding themselves in a situation where they feel their safety is at risk or who become aware of an attendee not in compliance with this policy should immediately locate the nearest staff member, so that the matter can be handled in an expeditious manner.

Pets

If you have pets, including iguanas, parrots, boa constrictors, or other nonhuman critters, please leave them at home. The Convention Center will not allow animals into the building, except for service animals.

Smoking & Tobacco Products

No smoking is allowed at any Convention event at any time or in any location. 'No smoking' includes traditional cigarettes, pipes, cigars, plus E-cigarettes and any vaping product or device. This policy includes the Vendor Rooms, all the Programming Rooms, the Convention-sponsored parties, and all other after-hour events. You are welcome to step outside to smoke in designated smoking areas only, but please be considerate of others when you do. Please comply with this policy; noncompliance may result in being ejected from the convention.

Costumes

Cape Events hosts family friendly events. Please use common sense, be considerate of other attendees and be aware of your surroundings. Many people attend specifically to see all of the amazing costumes.

  • Cosplay does not equal consent. Please ask the cosplayer for permission before taking a photo or touching them in any way.

  • Cover your body parts. “No costume” is not a costume. “Paint” and/or “pasties” are not a costume, either. No intentional or unintentional “wardrobe malfunctions” allowed. Please make sure your costume is sturdily constructed; this includes proper undergarments. If your costume is deemed to be too revealing or offensive, you will be asked to cover up or change.

  • All military, law enforcement, and other emergency service costumes should be easily distinguishable from official uniforms.

  • Roller blades, roller skates, and skateboards will not be allowed in the convention center.

  • Please, no signs offering services or making requests to be hugged or touched. We want everyone to feel comfortable.

  • Service Animals are allowed, assuming they are wearing the proper identification and you pick up after them.

Weapons

No functional weapons are allowed.

Simulated or costume weapons are allowed as a part of your costume, subject to prior approval by convention staff and compliance with the following:

  • All costume weapons must be inspected at the ticket table in the lobby.

  • Projectile costume weapons must be rendered inoperable.

  • Triggers must be peace-tied with zipties or ribbons.

  • Functional (real) arrows must have their tips removed and be bundled and zip tied to a quiver

  • Metal blades must stay sheathed when walking; you may unsheathe them for pictures.

If you do not want to have your costume weapons inspected, or if you are not willing to comply with these policies, please do not bring your costume weapons.
